No. 1 UCLA Women’s Basketball Sets Program Record with 22nd Consecutive Win over No. 8 Ohio State

Los Angeles - The top-ranked UCLA Bruins continued their dominant season with a decisive 65-52 victory over No. 8 Ohio State on February 5, 2025, at Pauley Pavilion. The win not only kept UCLA’s unbeaten record intact at 22-0 but also further cemented their status as the team to beat in women’s college basketball.

Leading the charge for the Bruins was junior center Lauren Betts, who delivered another stellar performance with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks. Betts was a force in the paint, controlling both ends of the floor and making it difficult for Ohio State to establish any inside presence.

Guard Gabriela Jaquez also made a significant impact, finishing with 17 points and six rebounds. Her clutch fourth-quarter performance, where she scored 11 of her points, helped UCLA pull away after a competitive first three quarters.

Ohio State started strong, capitalizing on early turnovers and fast-break opportunities to take an early lead. However, UCLA responded with a 12-3 run to close the first quarter, shifting the momentum. Despite the Buckeyes keeping the game within reach for most of the contest, the Bruins’ defensive intensity proved too much, holding Ohio State to just 29% shooting from the field.

The victory moves UCLA to 10-0 in Big Ten play, further solidifying their grip on the conference lead. Meanwhile, Ohio State drops to 20-2 overall and 9-2 in the conference, still maintaining a strong position in the rankings.
