Anaheim, CA - The Los Angeles Angels clinched a 3-2 win against the New York Mets on Sunday, securing a series victory at Angel Stadium.
Starting pitcher Griffin Canning delivered a commendable performance, earning his first win since June 24. Over five innings, Canning struck out eight batters, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks.
The Angels’ offense capitalized early. In the second inning, Jo Adell doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. Matt Thaiss added to the lead with a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 2-1. Zach Neto’s first MLB triple in the third inning set up another crucial run, extending the lead to 3-1.
Mets’ starter Jose Quintana faced challenges, surrendering three runs over five innings. Despite his efforts, the Mets’ offense couldn’t muster enough support, managing only five hits throughout the game.
The Angels’ bullpen showcased resilience. Mike Baumann and Roansy Contreras held the Mets scoreless in the final innings, with Contreras earning his second save of the season.
This victory marks the Angels’ second consecutive win, improving their season record to 49-63. The Mets, striving to stay competitive in the National League wild-card race, have now lost five of their last eight games.
